„Moonlight stealer” 2018 – Hárslevelű
|Grapes||Hárslevelű („Linden leaf”)|
|Country of origin||Hungary|
|Recommended to serve at||10 ℃|
Next to the Rhine Riesling plant this makes up for two thirds of our vineyard. This is the grape giving us our favourite Hungarian white wine. We fell in love with it in Tokaj, where else? We believe it is a feminine vine variety owing to its sensibility, fastidiousness and sugar making capability. This sparkling wine is considered to be a great teacher. Hárslevelű’s great bunches, thin skin plus too much rain in 2018 caused us a lot of trouble. It was very difficult (impossible) to find the suitable manpower for cultivation and by the time we managed to disentangle our vines from the weeds we got a very sad view…. After weeping a bit we had to make a very hard decision and get rid of that part of the crop that could have put the quality of the wine at risk. Not only did we have to take this decision, but the „pre-harvest” had to be made by us as well. This meant destroying about half of the crop at the beginning of August. That’s how we started. What remained was intact and healthy, but lagging behind a bit in ripening and with the risk of a potential reinfection that we wanted to avoid at all costs. The result: a quick harvest at the end of August and owing to the vivid acids: a sparkling wine. A special joy for us is that with such a „history” we still managed to make a nice wine successfully for the satisfaction of many people.
